Artist Biography
Bobby Izquierdo is a fine art photographer based in Pittsboro, North Carolina. After a successful career as an electrical engineer specializing in video compression and image quality analysis, he retired in 2023 to focus on fine art photography.
Working from Oasis Studio at Meadowview, Bobby creates still-life photographs and architectural nightscapes. His photography explores themes of memory, technology, time, and the human experience. Through careful composition and controlled lighting, he transforms ordinary objects into meaningful visual stories.
Fine Art Still-Life Photography
Bobby’s still-life photography is inspired by the dramatic use of light and shadow found in the work of Caravaggio and the symbolic traditions of the Dutch still-life masters. Using modern objects as visual metaphors, he creates photographs that encourage viewers to look beyond the surface and discover deeper meaning.
Many of his images explore the relationship between people and the objects they create, use, and leave behind. Light plays a central role in this work, shaping mood, revealing detail, and guiding the viewer through each photograph.
Architectural Nightscape Photography
In addition to still-life photography, Bobby creates architectural nightscapes that document the character of Pittsboro and surrounding communities. These images are made during the quiet hours after sunset and celebrate the beauty of architecture illuminated at night.
His nightscape photographs preserve a visual record of a changing community while highlighting the unique atmosphere created by light, shadow, and place.
Awards and Recognition
Bobby’s photography has received recognition in local, state, and international competitions. His photograph Wildflowers on Rustic Wood earned First Place honors in both the Chatham County and North Carolina State SilverArts competitions. His image Forsythia in Bud Vase received Second Place in the Chatham County SilverArts competition.
More recently, his photograph End of an Era: The Cathode Ray Tube received a Gold Award at the London Photography Awards. Two additional photographs, 71 Seconds to Midnight and Midnight Cuban Diary, received Honorable Mentions.
Community Involvement
Bobby is a member of the Chatham Artists Guild and the Pittsboro Gallery of Arts. His work is exhibited throughout Chatham and Orange Counties and is available for purchase through the Pittsboro Gallery of Arts in historic downtown Pittsboro.
Through his newsletter, The Art of Light and Shadow, workshops, and presentations, Bobby shares his passion for fine art photography, the history of art, and the creative possibilities of light as a storytelling medium.
His goal is to create contemporary still-life photography in the tradition of the old masters while using modern objects to explore timeless human themes.
