Pittsboro nightscape fine art photograph by Bobby Izquierdo, limited edition

At the center of Pittsboro’s historic traffic circle stands the Chatham County Courthouse, a building that has seen this town grow, rebuild, and renew itself for more than a century. Constructed in 1881 in the Greek Revival style, its white portico and clock tower have long symbolized both justice and community. After the devastating 2010 fire, the courthouse rose again—faithfully restored and reopened in 2013. To me, it isn’t just architecture; it’s the heartbeat of Pittsboro.

As a photographer, I’m drawn to places that carry memory in their walls. Every time I walk through the circle, I feel the courthouse watching over the town—steady, patient, and proud. I wanted to capture that feeling, not just the structure itself. Photographing it during the quiet transition between day and night allowed me to distill that presence—when the last light softens and the lamps begin to glow.

The original photograph began in the blue hour, just after sunset. Later, in my studio, I transformed it into a nightscape, a process where I darken the ambient exposure and reintroduce light, brushstroke by brushstroke, to shape how the viewer experiences the scene. The technique echoes my still-life light paintings: every highlight is intentional, every shadow purposeful. I want the courthouse to emerge from the darkness like a memory returning to consciousness—calm, luminous, and timeless.

This image is not just a photograph, but a reflection of my personal journey. It’s a tribute to resilience and renewal, mirroring my own creative transformation—from engineer to artist, from circuits to shadows. The glow of the courthouse’s clock tower serves as a constant reminder that endurance and grace often coexist in the same structure and in the same life.

Each Chatham County Courthouse Nightscape print is a unique piece of art, personally printed by me in my studio, Oasis Studio at Meadowview. I use archival inks and museum-grade materials to ensure both longevity and fidelity to my vision. This work is offered as a limited edition series, each signed, numbered, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Once all ten are sold, the edition will be permanently retired—making every print a rare and lasting piece of my artistic legacy.

This nightscape is more than just a photograph. It’s a reflection of my deep connection to Pittsboro and to the quiet beauty that emerges after the sun sets. I invite you to share in this connection, to appreciate the poetry of small-town life illuminated by light and shadow, just as I do.
