An Update on My Café Diem Architectural Nightscape

I want to share an important update regarding my Café Diem architectural nightscape, which some of you may have seen on my website, at the Pittsboro Gallery of Arts, or during the Chatham Artists Guild Studio Tour. I recently received a request from the owner of Café Diem asking me to remove the piece because he believed the artwork infringed on his logo.

My Perspective

I respectfully disagree with that interpretation of the law. As an artist, I fully believe I had the right to photograph the building and create a nightscape based on my creative vision. The focus of the piece was not the logo. It was the structure, the colors, and the character of the building. My goal was to show how it might look in a quiet, cinematic nighttime setting.

My Decision

Even though I believe I was within my rights, I chose not to challenge the request. I do not want to engage in a legal dispute. Out of respect for the situation, I removed the image from my portfolio.
Because of this, the Café Diem nightscape is no longer available, either online or in any gallery exhibition.

A Note to Collectors

I know some of you admired this piece. Some of you even saw it during the Studio Tour or at the Pittsboro Gallery of Arts and reached out with interest. I’m truly sorry for any disappointment this may cause. I value your support and your connection to the places I photograph.

Moving Forward

Thank you for understanding. I will continue to create new nightscapes and still-life works that honor the spirit of our community through light, mood, and imagination.
If you have any questions or would like to know about other available pieces, please feel free to reach out.
