Wildflowers on Rustic Wood Wins First Place in North Carolina SilverArts

I’m thrilled to announce that my still-life light painting, “Wildflowers on Rustic Wood,” won First Place in the North Carolina SilverArts State Finals in the Digital Photography category. This year’s event featured 65 talented photographers from across the state, each showcasing their creativity and vision.

The SilverArts program is part of the North Carolina Senior Games, a statewide celebration of art, creativity, and healthy living for adults aged 50 and older. Founded in 1983, the Senior Games combine athletic and artistic competitions to promote lifelong wellness and physical activity. The SilverArts division highlights the creative side of the Games, with categories such as painting, sculpture, poetry, woodworking, and photography. Each work is judged for its originality, craftsmanship, and emotional impact.

Winning at the state level is a true honor. The competition begins with local and regional events, where artists from across North Carolina qualify for the state finals. Standing among such skilled photographers and seeing the diversity of creative expression was both inspiring and humbling.

Wildflowers on Rustic Wood reflects my passion for still-life light painting. This technique utilizes controlled lighting to reveal fine textures, depth of color, and mood. The piece combines a rustic wooden background with a soft arrangement of wildflowers, creating a timeless balance of nature and artistry. Every detail was illuminated with purpose, using light as my brush to bring the subject to life.

Programs like SilverArts remind me of the power of art in bringing people and communities together. They celebrate the joy of creating, the courage to share, and the endless possibilities of artistic growth—no matter our age.

About the SilverArts

The SilverArts began as part of the North Carolina Senior Games to honor artistic talent among older adults. It celebrates the “creative spirit” alongside physical fitness, recognizing that the arts enrich both individuals and communities. Over the decades, SilverArts has evolved into one of the state’s most cherished cultural events, providing artists with the opportunity to showcase their work and inspire others through creativity.

Closing Thoughts

Receiving this award reinforces my belief that photography is more than an image—it’s a language of light, emotion, and connection. I’m grateful to the judges, fellow participants, and everyone who continues to support my journey in fine art photography.
